Hallo! I am pleased to welcome you in Samara. I am Nadja Chursova, your guide. We are going sightseeing today. I'll show you the Zhiguly and Sokolji mountains. If we have time I'll show you Molodetski barrow and Devja mountain. Let us begin.
From ancient times the Zhiguly mountains were called the place of freedom and legends. People from all parts of Great Russia came here to spare feelings with the Volga river and the terrible mountains. Many heroic events took place here, the ideas of the great war were born near.
People made songs and legends about native places: lakes, rivers, rocks and mountains. When we read them we imagine those brave men and beautiful ladies. The soul of the Russian man is open and we understand his feelings and love to the native places and Motherland. I want to tell you the legend about the Zhiguly mountains.
Long, long ago two brothers lived near Volga: Sokol and Zhigul. Nobody could separate them. Sokol had a dog that used to drive away all the animals and birds and angry people. Sokol asked the dog never let Volga come close to the brothers.
Oh, Volga! She wanted to separate friendly brothers. She came closer and closer to them, or sent her servants -waves. But the dog always woke up and the waves went away.
But Volga did not think of giving up. She had new ideas. Once she got news that Sokol liked pretty girls, walking over his shoulders. So Volga changed into a beautiful lady and went to the brothers.
The dog used to bark when a lady came to Sokol, but was so fond of Volga, that he could not hear the dog's barking. And at that moment Volga gushed out between the brothers and went to the sea.
From that moment Volga separates the brothers
and with a smile sends her waves to the sea.
Look at this two rocks on the bank! They look like a lady and a man. Let us listen a legend about this rocks.
Once upon a time there was a plane on the place of the Zhiguly mountains. The happiest people lived there. They loved each other and planted bread. But some people who lived nearby got news that those places were rich in gold. They decided to rob the places. The robers sat in boats and soon arrived near the wonderful plane.
When they wanted to go on the bank they heared: "What do you need? Go away!"
A man Mikula and a woman Daria stood on the
bank. The enemies began to shoot out of ows. And when they looked
again they saw no Mikula and Daria but two rocks. From this time
defend this two rocks our beautiful region.
